Asian equity markets followed Wall Street shares higher on
Thursday but the mood could be quiet with US markets shut for the Thanksgiving
holiday.
China's Shanghai Composite climbed 16.51 points or 0.75
percent to 2,217.58 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 146.08 points to 0.61
percent to 23,952.43.
Japan's Nikkei 225 Average rallied 180.48 points or 1.17
percent to 15,630.11 and Singapore's Straits Times spiked 24.85 points or 0.78
percent to 3,196.91.
South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 12.67 points or 0.62
percent at 2,041.48 and Taiwan Weighted advanced 63.62 points or 0.77 percent
to 8,359.50.
Meanwhile, upbeat economic data overnight helped the Dow and
S&P 500 closed at fresh record highs, while the Nasdaq ended at its highest
level in over thirteen years. Fewer Americans than expected filed applications
for jobless benefits last week, while a private gauge on consumer sentiment
topped estimates for November.
Meanwhile, the euro strengthened to a four-year high against
the yen after Germany's two major parties formed a grand coalition and pledged
fresh reforms.
