Asian shares traded mixed on Monday, following Friday's
uninspiring close on Wall Street. Data showing China's new home prices rose 9.6
percent in January did little to lift sentiment.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 shed
0.2 percent respectively while the Nasdaq edged down 0.1 percent, as investors
weighed corporate earnings results and a downbeat housing report.
China's Shanghai Composite declined 1.63 percent or 24.42
points at 2,079.27.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng shed 0.91 percent or 205.51 points at
22,362.73.
Japan's Nikkei rose 0.22 percent or 32.82 points at
14,898.49.
Singapore's Straits Times was up 0.17 percent or 5.27 points
at 3,105.20.
South Korea's Seoul Composite was down 0.25 percent or 4.95
points at 1,952.88.
Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 0.28 percent or 24.25
points at 8,577.61.
