BSE Up at 27,019.39, NSE up at 8,083.05

The Sensex closed above 27,000 for first time ever, registering record closing high for 6th day in a row. The 30-share index was up 158.53 points at 27026.08.

The Nifty ended at record closing high for 4th day in a row, after hitting intra-day record high of 8102 in trade today. The Nifty closed up 61.15 points at 8088.85.

Biggest gainer on the Sensex was CIPLA, with 5 percent up. 
Other major gainers were Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank and GAIL. 
Mojor losers were Tata Power, Tata Steel, Sesa Sterlite, HUL and Hindalco

BSE Down at 25,006.98, NSE Down at 7,454.15


The market closed lower for the fifth consecutive session on Monday. The Sensex fell 17.37 points to 25006.98 and the Nifty lost 5.45 points to 7454.15.

The S&P BSE Sensex provisionally ended marginally above 25000 on Monday, led by losses in Infosys, HUL, HDFC, ICICI Bank and WiproBSE -2.19 %. 

Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also managed to recover most of its intraday losses and closed above its crucial psychological support level of 7,450. 

The BSE Sensex closed 0.07 per cent lower or 17 points at 25006.98. It hit a low of 24,892.00 and a high of 25,095.76 in trade today. 

The 50-share Nifty index ended 0.07 per cent lower or 5.45 points at 7454. It hit a low of 7422.15 and a high of 7478.45 in trade today.

The Indian markets witnessed a stellar rally on the last trading day of the week as investors turned bullish on hopes that the Quantitative Easing in the US will continue in 2014. Sentiment from China's economic growth also boosted market by 7.8 per cent.

The Nifty ended at 6189.35 up 143.50 points or 2.31 per cent. The index touched intraday high of 6,201.45 and a low of 6,070.90. The index shut shop near 2013 high of 6187.3 made on May 17, 2013.

The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 20882.89, up 467.38 points or 2.29 per cent. It touched a high of 20,932.23 and a low of 20,486.78 in trade today.

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.99 per cent and the S&P BSE Smallcap Index gained 0.70 per cent.

Among the sectoral indices, the S&P BSE Bankex gained 3.93 per cent, the S&P BSE Metal Index was up 3.35 per cent, the S&P BSE Capital goods Index moved up 3.06 per cent and the S&P BSE Realty Index was 2.92 per cent higher.

The market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1,403 gainers against 1,081 losers.

The foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 1,109.93 crore while domestic institutional investors were net sellers worth Rs 1,149.22 crore on Thursday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
